Mr Van der Berg studied at the University of the Free State and obtained his LL.B degree in 2004 after having already completed his articles at AP Pretorius & Partners in Bloemfontein in 2001.
He was admitted as an advocate in 2004, where after he worked as an in-house counsel for Hattingh Attorneys in Bloemfontein and 2007 for Hannatjie van der Merwe Attorneys in Mafikeng.
In 2008 he was admitted as an attorney and moved to Plettenberg Bay where he worked as a professional assistant for Mostert & Bosman Attorneys.
In 2010 he joined the SANDF (Air Force) as a Military Law Practitioner and started working as a Military Prosecutor. He became a Military Defence Counsel in 2013, Senior Military Defence Counsel in 2020 and was recently assigned as a Military Review Judge in 2024.
Throughout his military career, he has gained international experience, being deployed under the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Here he was utilized to provide military legal support to the RSA contingent in the DRC.
Mr Van der Berg finalized his LL.M degree in international law in 2015. He was also admitted as a Conveyancer in 2016. Whilst working for the SANDF, he received permission to open his own law firm and in March 2017, Van der Berg Attorneys & Conveyancers opened its doors, which of course was then converted to VDB Law inc. in 2020.
Mr Van der Berg has since embarked on many various property transfers and transactions, as well as various civil-, criminal- and commercial matters.
